Facility Scorecard
Executive Summary
Acton Middle School, built in 2001, is in fair condition but would benefit from targeted upgrades to bring it closer to a “like new” status. Key priorities include modernizing the campus communication system for more effective coordination and transitioning to LED lighting to enhance both energy efficiency and lighting quality. While the cafeteria and kitchen are adequately sized for three lunch services, most science classrooms fall slightly short of the recommended square footage for 24 students. The HVAC system is a concern, with 51% of total tonnage past its life expectancy, requiring a phased replacement plan. Roofing also needs attention: the gravel roof has exceeded its service life and should be replaced, while the metal standing seam roof will reach its life expectancy in 2031 and should be included in long-term planning. With consistent maintenance and strategic investment in these priority areas, the campus could continue serving the district effectively for another 20 to 25 years.
