Educational Adequacy Assessment
System Rating Score
  • Adequate Spaces

  • Needs Improvement

  • Not Adequate

Good
Core Classrooms: Classrooms are adequately sized but need upgrades to finishes & FF&E.
Good
Occupant Flow: Circulation space is adequate for the needs of the facility.
Poor
Security: There are Safety and Security concerns inherent with free standing facilities that require students and staff to travel outside between buildings. See Safety & Security recommendations on the Facility Details page.
Fair
Special Education: Spaces dedicated to Special Education are adequate in size. Improvements in finishes, accessibility and FF&E are needed. It is recommended that all Special Education programs be located in the Main building to avoid the inaccessible route to and from the CTE building and to be closer to campus administration and nurse.

Actions to Improve the Educational Environment

The Educational Environment at the Chapel Hill High School CTE building is fair. Cramped shops and labs limit the number of students in programs, accessibility is deficient and many finish upgrades are needed. The expense of bringing existing facilities up to current standards and expanding spaces to more adequately serve the programs occupying this facility is close to the cost of replacing the facility. A replacement facility, connected to the Main building, designed to maximize functionality, is recommended.
