Facility Scorecard
Executive Summary
The West Wing of Breckenridge ISD’s North Elementary School campus was built in 1982. The North Elementary School campus is 3.91 acres in size with four permanent structures consisting of the East Wing (Cafeteria & Classrooms) 1959, the Middle Wing (Classrooms) 1959, the West Wing (office & Classrooms) 1982, and the Gym built in 2008. At the time of the site visit the North Campus was not occupied by students and was predominantly storage. The West Wing is in fair condition overall although facility is in need of maintenance and usual upkeep. Cracking observed in masonry walls inside the structure could be an indication of foundation movement. Repair cracking and observe, if movement persists consider engineering study. Re-sealing external masonry walls is a key part of a well-maintained structure. The interior of this facility would need updating and renovation if or when the building is to be occupied by students. In addition, the district should review and consider Safety & Security recommendations on the Facility Details page. In all, the cost of general maintenance not to mention ongoing utility cost could quickly match or exceed the cost of demolition. Determining long-term intended use of this facility is a key factor when considering cost benefit of maintaining or removal. With renovations, updates, ongoing maintenance, and repairs this facility could continue to serve the district.
