Executive Summary

Chapel Hill ISD's Shop/Boneyard facility resides on the Jackson Elementary School campus. The present-day Shop/Boneyard was built as an Ag classroom and shop as per stone marker in 1960, at the same time as the original Elementary campus. The Shop/Boneyard steel internal supporting structure does not appear to be that old matching closer to the 1973 construction date provided. When assessing this facility, it is being considered as an unoccupied storage facility to determine level of action. There would need to be substantial repairs and updates need if the building’s use was to change to a student-occupied structure. Facility is in fair condition overall and needs maintenance and repair of various building components. The gutters and downspouts should be cleared of any obstructions. District should review and consider Safety and Security Recommendations. In addition, interior door hardware and stairs should be updated for ADA compliance. The interior finishes of the facility are in poor condition but appropriate for storage. With adequate maintenance, this facility could continue to serve the district for an additional 20-30 years.
