Executive Summary

The Science, Auditorium, and Old Gym building at Gonzales Junior High School was constructed in 1941 (math wing and gym/locker additions were made in 2017 and 2011, see separate report for those additions). Overall, the building is generally in good-to-fair condition, but is in need of maintenance and repair of various building components. Security improvements should be installed. In all, the interiors of the facility are generally in good condition and provide an educational environment that is generally favorable to learning; however, the multi-building campus layout is not conducive to modern learning strategies. With adequate maintenance, the older portions should continue to serve the district for another 10-15 years, but due to age a major investment in the renovation of the older portion of the building may not be economically sound.
