Executive Summary

The Hempstead Maintenance building was constructed in 1978 on the campus of Hempstead High School. A CMU block building at HES is also used by HISD maintenance and operations. The building is in fair to good condition. Greatest concern is the safety and security risk that having maintenance, operations and transportation facilities on instrucitonal campuses. Coupled with 5 portable classroom buildings currently being used by district departments at both the elementary and high schools, it is recommended that the district provide an off campus auxiliary facility to house maintenance, operations, transportation, food service, police and grounds functions. In the interim, Security improvements, roofing replacement, HVAC replacement and fire detection should be pursued.
